Banshu cotton fabric has been woven for approximately 200 years.
It is a traditional craft passed down from the Edo period, and the delicate patterns are praised as being among Japan's finest techniques.
The fabric is "yarn-dyed," meaning the threads are dyed before weaving, which gives it vibrant colors and makes it resistant to fading.
Furthermore, the more it is washed, the softer it becomes, and with age, it develops a pleasant, almost skin-hugging texture.
